A new year brings with it fresh beauty trends. Some will flop while others will become mainstays. From new colour palettes to a certain skincare brand’s relaunch, here are the top beauty trends we predict will be gaining momentum in 2022.
In the World’s Most Popular Fragrance category, we expect to see more brands catering to niche beauty needs. Personalisation of products and packaging will continue to gain traction, as well as the expansion of beauty by life stage (think menopausal beauty). We’re also seeing mass-market players like E.l.f. and MAC tapping into the wellness/beauty hybrid market with a focus on clean, natural products. We’ll also see more brands embracing gender-neutrality and inclusivity with products like Jecca Black’s ‘Makeup for Everyone’, as well as Fluide’s images of both male and female models wearing their makeup.

At the other end of the spectrum, we’re seeing a new wave of skincare brands catering to black skin. Founded by influencers, beauty therapists and entrepreneurs, these brands are tackling the issue of skin inequality and addressing a lack of black expertise within mainstream salons. Moreover, they’re doing so with a message that’s both high-performing and ethical.
The same is true for fragrance, where black-owned perfumery Maison Francis Kurkdjian has seen sales spike since its fragrance rose to TikTok fame this year. This luxe, woody scent features a blend of jasmine, saffron and cedarwood fir resin. Whether you’re looking to treat yourself or the giftee in your life, this is one beauty product to add to the cart this year.
